Laptop Printing FAQ



The library is pleased to offer USC School of Medicine students the ability to send print jobs directly to the library printers from their laptops. Laptop users can download the Uniprint print drivers and send print jobs from anywhere they are connected to the School of Medicine wireless network. Users will have 24 hours to print the jobs from the library printers.

Uniprint drivers available for download:
Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) - Click "Library Printer" link, and follow all instructions. Note for Windows 7: we had to disable Windows Firewall and Antivirus when installing this package.

OS X 10.6 & Higher

Please Download the following File Popup Installer. Unzip the file, then install Popup.pkg. If you receive any errors about unsigned applications, you can COMMAND-Click the file and find the option to override. Follow installation instructions. This installer should create both a Color and B&W printer. IMPORTANT: you must install an additional file for the Black and White printer. Please download the Konica Minolta driver , unzip, and install.

Windows 2000/XP/2003 and Macintosh Version 10 and above are supported. If you are a Mac user or have a PC with any other Windows operating system, email libsystems@uscmed.sc.edu.

How do I install Uniprint print drivers on my laptop? (back to top)

Download the appropriate print driver at the top of this page and follow the onscreen instructions.

Do I need to install the print drivers each time that I print? (back to top)

No, you only need to install the print drivers once.

Will I need to update the print drivers? (back to top)

No, the print drivers will be automatically updated as new releases are available.

Which printer should I send my print jobs to? (back to top)

All print jobs should be sent to “B&W Printer,” the default Uniprint printer.

Where are the print jobs sent? (back to top)

The print jobs are sent to the library printers on the first floor next to the Circulation desk.

Is there a charge to print? (back to top)

Yes, you will use the Uniprint system to pay for printing. Go to the Uniprint FAQ for more details.

Do I have to be in the library to print? (back to top)

No, you can send print jobs anywhere where the wireless network is available on the School of Medicine campus.

How do I enable the duplex or double-sided printing feature? (back to top)

  1. Open the Printers and Faxes window (for Windows users go to Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes).
  2. Right-click on the "B&W Printer" and select Properties from the drop down menu that appears.
  3. In the Properties window click on the Device tab.
  4. In the "Available Options" menu, scroll until you find Duplex Option. Highlight it and click Add.
  5. You should now see "Duplex Option" in the "Installed" list.
  6. Click Apply and then OK

Can I print from home? (back to top)

Yes, you can print from home if you are connected to the School of Medicine network through a VPN (virtual private network). Once you send your print job, you will have 24 hours to release your print job to the printer at the release stations in the library.

Is Color Printing Available? (back to top)

Yes, color printing is available for all School of Medicine students. The cost is $0.30/page.
